Installing mods on fallout 4 does not have to be a complicated thing.
It's actually pretty easy so basically there's three different ways to install mods on pc first you can mainly add the game changing mod files, to your actual game directory this is not recommended because once a mod is installed it's really hard to remove it without reinstalling the entire game now that's up second you can use mod manager to install mods for you mod manager is different from manually installing mods because the mod manager application is going to allow you to enable and disable mods whenever you like mod manager is more of an advanced mod installing application as it gives the user a lot of flexibility which creates more opportunity for things to go wrong but don't worry there's an even more user-friendly way to install mods option number three is vortex vortex and mod manager are really similar but vortex just does a few more things automatically for you in this guide.
I'm going to show you how to use vortex to install mods for fallout.
4.
to get started head on over to nexusmods.com to download any of the mods.
You're going to have to register for an account so click the register button and complete the account setup process once you've completed that make sure you're logged into nexus mods and search for vortex on the right.
You'll see this download button here, click the manual button and scroll down under main files, click manual download on the first option listed on the page.
That appears select the slow download button on nexus mods.
They require a paid membership to get the fast downloads which is kind of a bummer, but I mean it makes sense.
The website probably wouldn't be able to stick around if they didn't have different ways to make money anyways.
Once it's downloaded, save the installer to your computer.
Now, click on the installer, either through your browser or through your file, explorer follow the prompts to complete the vortex.
Install once vortex is installed.
Click on the games tab, so vortex works for a lot of different games.
As you can see, if vortex has not already found your games, you can press the scan button at the top of the screen here.
If, for some reason, vortex is unable to locate your game, use the search bar and type in fallout, 4., okay, so now, let's head back to nexus mods and start installing a mod click on the nexus mods logo to be taken back to the home, screen, scroll down and select fallout 4.
Now, click on the search bar and type in start me up.
This mod provides a variety of different starting paths for your character.
It also enables you to do a quick start of the game which skips all the pre-war stuff and just starts you out right as you're being unfrozen from your pod.
When I install mods like to look to the description section here on nexus, mods and just kind of read through to see if there's any special installation instructions, it looks like for this mod.
There is not so next I'll scroll up to requirements and check to see if this mod requires any other mods to work correctly looks like this one does not now click on the files tab check out the main files.
This mod has two options: full dialog and normal dialog.
The full dialog option is actually for compatibility with the full dialog mod.
I guess the full dialog mod shows exactly what your character is going to say in the text options instead of the shorthand version like normal.
For this tutorial, I'm just going to install the normal dialogues prompt option.
Also important to note, are all the update files below looks like you.
Don't have to install these files they're only going to fix a couple of lines that I'm not too worried about so go ahead and click on mod manage your download button.
On start me up, normal dialog prompts in the main file press the slow download button again and open up your vortex window in vortex click on the downloads, tab and you'll see that your mod is downloading.
We're really doing it once it's finished.
Select the orange install button in the downloads tab.
You should also be able to find this install button in the normal mods section of vortex, also from the mods tab.
You can enable disable and uninstall the mods you've downloaded from nexus you'd want to disable a mod if there's a conflict or if you're, just tired of using it.
Also important to remember is that every time you enable a mod vortex should automatically redeploy all of your mods, which is just the last step to get them into your game.
If you need to manually, deploy your mods for whatever reason you can do so by pressing the deploy mods button in the toolbar on vortex for the best results it's best to install one mod at a time, you're gonna have a much more stable and enjoyable experience, so you take it slow and just make sure that each mod is working before you continue forward.
Some mods may also require fallout, 4 script, extender or f4 se to work.
If you see that your mod requires the fallout 4 script, extender you'll need to set that up with vortex as well.
Don't worry I'll show you how to do that at the end of this video, alright.
So for our mod, let's go back to the dashboard tab and then select fallout 4.
To start your game to verify that the mod is working, we just need to get past this initial character creation screen.
Then the start me up mod screen should appear here.
We choose how we want to start the game option.
One allows us to change our backstory completely option.
Two is a quick start option that skips all the pre-war stuff option.
Three allows us to continue like the model is never installed awesome, so we have a working mod all right.
So now, let's go back to the fallout.
4 script, extender, open, a new tab and search for fallout, 4 script, extender the mod is on f4sc.silverlock.org, open the page and select the newest version of the script.
Extender extract.
The download then locate your fallout 4 game directory copy.
All the files from the extracted script, extender, zip file and paste them into the same directory where your fallout 4 executable, is located.
Okay, so now, back on, vortex, select the three vertical dots on the fallout: 4 script, extender icon for target, select the folder icon and point to the location of your f4 sc loader executable.
Also, if your start path is different, like mine, was go ahead and match it up to your fallout 4 game directory, like I do here all right now, you're set that wasn't too bad right when a mod requires f4sc, you must start the game using the fallout.
4 script, extender icon in the dashboard of vortex for the mod to work properly or at all.
I pretty much always run my game from the script extender, because a lot of mods require it to work.
Anyways I mean that's pretty much it you've, just modded fallout 4.! Congratulations! If you have other games, you've thought about modding before then check out my other guides.
Eventually, I'm going to have a mod for every widely modded game out there.
Thanks for watching.
Let me know if you get stuck on any part.
I respond to basically every question.
So all right, I'll see you guys later you.
